Vitec 7400 by Avista : Silica and Sulfate Control
Vitec 7400 is a liquid antiscalant featuring a unique blend of polymeric components and phosphonates, designed specifically for systems facing significant challenges from both silica and sulfates. This product has been developed for groundwater with high silica and sulfate concentration, high recovery systems and closed circuit desalination. NSF approved, Vitec 7400 ensures not only effective protection against scale formation but also safety in its application for water treatment.
Key Benefits Vitec 7400
- Powerful against various types of scale: Effective in the prevention of silica (SiO2), calcium sulfate (CaSO4), barium sulfate (BaSO4), strontium sulfate (SrSO4), calcium carbonate (CaCO3), calcium phosphate (CaPO4) and calcium fluoride (CaF2) scale.
- Specially developed for Silica and Sulfate challenges: Ideal for treating groundwater with high silica and sulfate concentrations, adapting to the needs of high recovery and closed loop desalination systems.
- Universal compatibility with polyamide membranes: Compatible with polyamide membranes from all major manufacturers, the Vitec 7400 offers a versatile solution for a wide range of reverse osmosis systems.
- NSF Certification: Guarantees that Vitec 7400 can be safely used in drinking water treatment applications, which not all antiscalants can claim.
Applications and usage: Vitec 7400 is ideal for reverse osmosis systems that face significant challenges with silica and sulfate fouling, common in seawater, brackish water and wastewater treatment. Its liquid formulation facilitates its application and handling, offering a powerful and effective solution for membrane maintenance and system performance optimization.
User benefits:
Vitec 7400 stands out for its ability to generate considerable savings in the costs associated with membrane replacement. By extending the life of the membranes, the frequency with which they need to be replaced is reduced, resulting in direct and substantial savings in terms of operating and maintenance costs. This economic advantage, combined with improved operational efficiency, positions the Vitec 7400 as a smart and strategic investment for any facility seeking to optimize its operations and ensure maximum protection of its critical assets.
In summary, Avista's Vitec 7400 stands as a state-of-the-art solution for engineers committed to operational excellence and economic sustainability of their filtration systems. By offering advanced fouling protection, extending membrane life and generating significant savings in maintenance costs, this product not only meets but exceeds expectations in terms of performance and reliability.

Injection
- Injection point: The optimum location for injection of Vitec 7400 is generally before the reverse osmosis pretreatment system, but after any feedwater treatment, such as sand, multimedia or cartridge filters. This ensures uniform mixing of the antiscalant with the feed water before entering the membranes.
- Injection system: Use a dosing pump to inject the diluted Vitec 7400 solution into the feed water stream. Ensure that the pump is correctly calibrated to deliver the precise amount needed for effective scale protection.
- Continuous monitoring and adjustment: Regularly monitor system performance and produced water quality to ensure that Vitec 7400 dosing remains effective. Adjust the injection rate as necessary to respond to any changes in feedwater conditions or system performance.
Dosage
- Dosage calculation: The typical dosage range is between 2 and 10 ppm. A site-specific dose can be determined using the Avista™ Advisor™Ci software program. The exact dosing rate of the Vitec 7400 depends on several factors, including the quality of the feed water, the type and rate of fouling expected, and the flow rate through the system. Consult the manufacturer's recommendations to determine the appropriate initial dosage rate for your specific application.
- Adjustments: The dosing rate may need to be adjusted based on operational results, such as changes in differential pressure across the membranes or water quality analysis. Keep a detailed record of any adjustments and their impact on system performance to facilitate ongoing optimization.
Dilution
- Preparation of the solution: This product is designed to be used directly without dilution. However, if dilution is required, demineralized water or RO permeate should be used. Dilution of Vitec 7400 should not result in a concentration of less than 10%. This recommendation ensures the preservation of the effectiveness of the internal bacteriostatic, which prevents bacterial growth both in the drum and in the feed tank. Vitec 7400 is generally supplied in concentrated form. To prepare the working solution, the concentrate should be diluted with demineralized water or water of similar quality. The dilution ratio may vary according to system specifications and the quality of the water to be treated. As a starting point, a dilution at the ratio recommended by the manufacturer could be considered.
- Agitation: Be sure to mix the solution thoroughly to ensure that the product is completely dissolved in the water. This is essential to maintain consistent and effective dosing over time.
