3M filters and cartridges for water purification and filtration in México

3M was founded in 1902 in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota as a small mineral mine. Over time, it began to diversify and develop innovative products such as sandpaper, adhesive tape and air filters.

Today, 3M is a multinational company with a wide range of products in areas such as healthcare, construction, electronics and office. The company has been noted for its focus on research and development, and is known for its “continuous improvement” philosophy.

3M domestic and industrial purification and filtration

3M Purification, formerly known as CUNO, comes from the Company’s founder, Charles Cuno, who started the Company in 1912 in Meriden, Connecticut. The company started as a supplier of mechanical parts for the automotive industry, but began developing metal and mechanical filters early in its existence. During the 1960s, he focused his attention solely on filtration and developed a line of bonded resin depth filters and cartridges for the industrial market that are still in production.

Moving towards finer and more sophisticated filtration, CUNO engineers invented a patented filter based on modified charge cellulose, which enabled sub-micron (sub-micron) particle filtration, creating a much finer filtration technology. Variants of this filter are used today in the blood fractionation and biopharmaceutical industries. CUNO was a pioneer in the development of microporous membranes and patented the use of nylon 66 for the formation of filtration membranes.

Finally, by leveraging the technology developed for the industrial market into the residential and commercial drinking water market, the Company launched a complete line of products under the Aqua-Pure® brand. More recently, CUNO patented a unique carbon block process that results in a product that reduces a wide variety of chemical contaminants in water while offering high flow rates and low pressure drop.

In 2005, CUNO was acquired by 3M and now operates as a division within the Industrial and Transportation Business. The acquisition combined 3M’s innovation with CUNO’s filtration application expertise. The purification division is active in virtually all key markets for liquid filtration. CUNO has fully integrated into 3M’s international organization, capitalizing on the growing market for cleaner fluids in industry and cleaner, better tasting water for people around the world.
