Hydronix Bag Filters

Bag filters are widely used in the filtration industry. The felt used in bag filters is very fine and offers a higher solids loading capacity from 1 to 200 microns.

Manufactured with felt due to its high solid loading capacity compared to similar mesh fabrics. A glaze finish, created by melting the most remote fibers on the surface, is used to produce a bond that reduces the possibility of migration.

Characteristics of water filter bags:

  • Sturdy handle for easy installation and replacement.
  • Wide range of media fibers to meet temperature and micron specifications.
  • Edgeless finish for quality requirements.
  • Multi-layer filtration capabilities for greater dirt holding capacity and fewer changes.
  • Dimensions compatible with filter holder diameter 4.12″ x length 20 inches.

Applications:

  • Acids
  • Alkaline
  • Corrosive fluids
  • Microorganisms
  • Oils
  • Organic solvents.

Bag filters in industrial applications.

Bag filters are widely used in industries such as pharmaceutical production, food and beverage, chemicals, drinking water, high viscosity liquids and in laboratories.

The function of the filter bag is to physically retain contaminants through the pores of the filter material of which the bag is composed (nylon, polyester, polypropylene, etc.). Dirt accumulates on the material until the filter becomes saturated and must be replaced.

In applications with high levels of suspended particle contamination or high viscosity, bag filters are the ideal equipment for the liquid filtration process.

It should be taken into account that when thinking about the use of bag filters, a housing is required, which can be individual (only one bag) or multiple (several filters in the same housing). Depending on the filter model, will require specifically and exclusively the housing of the same brand or manufacturer. This is due to differences in collar designs and materials. This part is the one that allows the support and sealing of the filter bag in the housing.

Bag filters versus cartridge filters.

The differential characteristics of bag filters versus cartridge filters is that bag filters can be used with higher flow rates. This is due to its superior filtration area that allows a greater accumulation of solids, without significantly reducing flow efficiency. In addition, the larger volume available in bag filters to retain solids gives the advantage of longer operating periods before needing to be replaced.

It is for these characteristics that bag filters are an economical method when it comes to filtration processes with replaceable elements.

Bag filters will typically have higher micron ratings than cartridge filters, making them ideal for filtration of oversize sediments that might be problematic for cartridge filters. Therefore, bag filters are an option for the treatment of liquids where a deeper filtration with cartridges is required later, as the bag filter will protect the functionality and reduce the maintenance of subsequent filters.

However, it must be considered that the filter bags have some limitations, such as not being able to operate in counter-flow and, therefore, they have to be replaced once they become saturated with sediments. It should also be noted that they are less resistant to pressure changes and withstand a lower pressure differential than cartridge filters.
