Description
Powdered activated carbon for water purification and color removal.
Powdered activated carbon for water purification as it complies with AWWA Standard B600.
Megapol E is a powdered activated carbon of 100% vegetable origin, specifically formulated for water purification processes. Thanks to its high adsorption capacity and rapid action due to its powdered form, it is ideal for removing unwanted organic compounds, odors, and tastes. Its high porosity structure also makes it suitable for moderate decolorization applications in industrial processes where extreme conditions are not required.
This product offers an efficient and sustainable solution, compatible with conventional treatment systems and adaptable to different types of raw water.
Applications:
- Treatment for water purification
- Adsorption of MIB and Geosmin
- Decolorization of some liquids
Due to its characteristics, this product can also be used in processes that do not require high levels of purification, for example, in the decolorization of food products with moderate color levels.
For the decolorization of beverages, oils, or liquids with high color levels, we recommend Megapol C and Megapol 4-28 products.
What is powdered charcoal?
Powdered wood-based vegetable carbon for water purification is a product used in industrial processes to remove some color and unwanted substances from liquid solutions. It is obtained from the carbonization of wood, which involves chemically activating wood sawdust to produce vegetable carbon. This carbon then undergoes activation processes to enhance its adsorption qualities before being ground and finally sieved to pass through a 200 mesh screen.
What is charcoal powder used for?
After the activation process, powdered charcoal acquires a high adsorption capacity . This characteristic is one of the properties that makes it valuable in the decolorization of liquids in multiple industrial processes. The term “adsorption” refers to the process in which powdered charcoal traps and retains dye molecules and other impurities on the surface of its particles, effectively removing them from the liquid in which it is found. This results in a clarification and discoloration of the treated liquid.
Megapol E powdered vegetable carbon is specially formulated for use in water treatment plants, where the efficient removal of organic compounds responsible for unpleasant odors and tastes in water is required. Thanks to its high adsorption capacity, it is effective in removing MIB (2-methylisoborneol) and geosmin, two of the main causes of organoleptic problems in drinking water. It is an ideal solution for improving the sensory quality of water in municipal and industrial treatment systems.
How does powdered activated carbon work in the purification of water with the presence of color?
Powdered activated carbon of vegetable origin, especially that derived from wood, has a highly porous structure and sufficient surface area, which makes it an effective adsorbent for the removal of organic compounds responsible for color in water. During the purification process, these compounds—frequently originating from natural organic matter in surface sources—adhere to the internal and external surface of the carbon through physical and chemical forces, such as Van der Waals adsorption and hydrophobic bonds.
When dosed into the raw water flow, the activated carbon effectively traps colorants and other dissolved contaminants, facilitating their subsequent removal in the sedimentation and filtration stages. The result is a significant reduction in color intensity and an improvement in the visual and organoleptic quality of the treated water.
