Disc Filters for Filtration System Optimization
Palace Resorts Cancún Hotel
Challenge
Palace Resorts Cancún has a wastewater treatment system for water reuse. However, in the final stage of the process, the tertiary (treated) wastewater still contained a considerable amount of sediments. This compromised the quality of the water intended irrigation of the resort’s extensive green areas.
Carbotecnia Solution
An Azud brand disc filtration system was implemented. These high-efficiency units were strategically installed to treat the tertiary effluent. The Azud disc filters demonstrated exceptional capacity to retain the remaining fine sediments, ensuring optimal-quality irrigation water.
Results and Benefits
1.
Superior Water Quality for Irrigation
Water passing through Azud disc filters is free of sediments, ensuring efficient irrigation and preventing clogging of sprinkler systems.
2.
Water Sustainability
Maximizes the use of treated water, promoting responsible use of water resources for irrigation of the resort’s green areas.
3.
Infrastructure Protection
Prevents clogging and premature wear of irrigation equipment caused by particle buildup.
Project 2
Optimization of Sand Filters and Reduction of Operational Costs
Challenge
The deep-bed filtration system (sand and anthracite filters) of the hotel complex faced high water consumption during backwash cycles. This not only resulted in significant water expenditure but also reduced overall system efficiency and accelerated wear of the granular media, with the risk of preferential channel formation that decreases filtration effectiveness.
Carbotecnia Solution
Azud disc filters were installed as a pre-filtration stage before the existing sand filters. This configuration acts as a protective barrier, retaining a large portion of larger suspended solids before they reach the deep bed.
Results and Benefits
1.
Significant Reduction in Water Consumption
By decreasing the solids load reaching the sand filters, the frequency and duration of backwash cycles are significantly reduced, generating substantial water savings.
2.
Improved Filtration Efficiency
Sand filters operate more efficiently when receiving pre-filtered water, improving the final water quality.
3.
Extended Service Life of Granular Media
Minimizes saturation and wear of sand and anthracite, extending their service life and reducing the need for costly replacements.
4.
Prevention of Channeling due to Bed Compaction
By reducing solids load, the risk of compaction and channel formation in the filter bed is minimized, ensuring uniform filtration.
5.
Lower Operating Costs and Increased Productivity
The combination of water savings, reduced maintenance, and improved efficiency translates into significant cost reductions and increased productivity of the overall filtration system.
