How does the silver ionizer for drinking water work?

This sterilizer works electrolytically, the silver ions are released through an electrode 0.04 – 0.1 ppm concentration of silver ions, which inactivates the reproductive system of bacteria, germs, algae, etc.

In short, drinking water is left with a residual of these ions to keep it free of microorganisms for a longer period of time before consumption. It also prevents the proliferation of bacteria in storage tanks, pipes, bottles or demijohns.

The process that could replace silver ions is ozone, but this gas has a shorter life time, since it is a very volatile gas that remains for a short time in open containers.

Disinfection with silver ions is a proven and accepted method of inhibiting bacterial growth in drinking water. Silver ions do not add taste, odor or change the composition of the water, like chlorine or other oxidizers.

As long as the concentration of silver ions is present in the water, there will be no bacteria in the water distribution system or storage tank.

The concentration of silver ions for drinking water disinfection is recommended to add 0.1 ppm of silver ions. The minimum time necessary for the silver to take effect is 4 hours of contact with water. This should guarantee a maximum of 0.08 ppm in the system.
