Why are Carbon Block carbon block cartridges a good choice?

A carbon block cartridge consists mainly of activated carbon granules and a binding agent that allows the carbon granules to maintain a static position with respect to each other.

It should be noted that in block carbon cartridges, carbon particles are immobilized to promote uniformity of performance, preventing water channeling, which is common with GAC. The carbon block is formed in a cartridge of predetermined dimensions.

It is this uniform pore structure between the individual carbon granules that allows the carbon block to achieve greater pollutant reduction efficiency. The uniform pore structure of the carbon block also increases the contact time with the filter media, which further increases the block’s ability to remove contaminants.

More efficiency due to the particle size of the coal.

The smaller particle size and uniform pore structure of the carbon block cartridge provides a high level of efficiency in a much smaller size than a GAC at the same flow rate. For this reason, GAC is typically used as a treatment method for aesthetic contaminants (removal of taste, odor and color). Carbon block cartridges go beyond aesthetic water improvement by reducing particulates, microscopic cysts, lead, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and other contaminants.

Almost no color release (fine).

On the other hand, carbon fines or carbon dust can be a major concern in customer service. The new GAC filters release black color in the water (carbon fines) contained in the carbon when the filter is first used. Due to its static composition, the carbon block produces a minimum of carbon fines at start-up, thus minimizing the need for backwashing or washing.

Furthermore, an additional advantage of carbon block over GAC is that the pore size of the block can be controlled to a size small enough to virtually eliminate bacterial growth within the filter.

Benefits of a Carbon Block carbon block cartridge:

In general, carbon block is a better choice in water filtration applications because of its high effectiveness in removing contaminants, relative low cost, compact size, use of renewable resources, small form factor and resistance to bacterial growth.

  1. Highly effective in the purification of: Chlorine, taste and odor.
  2. FDA listed materials.
  3. Low pressure drop. High performance.
  4. Greater capacity to retain dust and other small particles.
  5. Longer service life than granular cartridges.
  6. Low ash content (coal fines) compared to granular cartridges.

Common applications of carbon block cartridges:

Carbon is commonly used in POU (Point of Use) water filtration in carbon block and GAC applications. However, compared to GAC, the higher efficiency of the carbon block and the higher number of carbon particles allow the carbon block to remove or reduce impurities with a much shorter contact time. In addition, the smaller form factor allows carbon block manufacturers to produce high-performance water filters in much smaller and diverse product designs. Some of the main applications are:

  • Home reverse osmosis system pre-filter.
  • Water filtration in the home.
  • Point-of-use (POU) filtration.
  • Dental laboratories and dental offices.
  • Filtration for the power supply of household appliances, such as refrigerators.
  • Water filtration for small businesses.
  • Water from the municipal water supply.
  • And a wide variety of other applications.

Advantages of using a CarbonBlok activated carbon cartridge filter in water filtration and purification.

These filters are highly effective because they combine physical filtration to remove sediment and activated carbon to remove chemical and organic contaminants in the water, making them a popular choice for a variety of water treatment applications.

Chemical contaminant removal: CarbonBlok activated carbon cartridge filters are very effective in removing chemical contaminants from water, such as chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and industrial chemicals. The activated carbon adsorbs these contaminants and retains them on the surface of the material’s pores.

Improved water taste and odor: Activated carbon filters are also effective in improving the taste and odor of water. Activated carbon adsorbs organic compounds that give water an unpleasant taste and odor, which improves its quality and taste.

Wide range of pore sizes: CarbonBlok activated carbon cartridge filters are available in a wide range of pore sizes, allowing filtration to be tailored to the specific needs of each application. Pore sizes can range from 1, 5 and 10 microns or microns, allowing for customized filtration according to water quality and application requirements.

Chemical resistance: CarbonBlok activated carbon cartridge filters are resistant to most chemicals, making them suitable for use in applications with water containing aggressive chemicals. In addition, activated carbon is an inert material and does not release chemicals into the filtered water, ensuring the safety and quality of the water.

Long service life: CarbonBlok activated carbon cartridge filters have a longer service life than other types of water filters. In general, these filters have a useful life of 6 to 12 months, depending on the quality of the water and the amount of contaminants present. In addition, the cartridge replacement process is simple and can be performed without special tools.

In summary, CarbonBlok activated carbon cartridge filters offer a highly effective solution for the removal of chemical and organic contaminants in water, improving the taste and odor of water. These filters are resistant to most chemicals, have a wide range of pore sizes and have a long service life, making them an attractive option for a variety of water treatment applications.
