Greensand is a purple-black medium used to remove iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide from water. It can also remove radium and arsenic. It is processed with glauconite and zeolite minerals.

Manganese dioxide acts as a catalyst in the oxidation-reduction reaction of iron and manganese, generating its precipitation in the medium. This material must be regenerated either in continuous or intermittent operation and can use chlorine or permanganate for its regeneration.

Additionally, green sand is manufactured under the American standards ANSI / NSF Standard 61 for components in drinking water treatment.

Greensand plus uses manganese dioxide coated silica sand that acts as a catalyst in the oxidation-reduction reaction of iron and manganese. The difference between Greensand Plus and Manganese Greensand is in the substrate that forms the core of the filter media and the method by which the manganese dioxide coating is attached to that substrate. Greensand Plus uses silica sand that is strongly fused to it, while Manganese Greensand has an ionically bonded glauconite core, being weaker.

Greensand Plus' silica sand base allows it to better withstand operating conditions in low silica, TDS and hardness waters. So if you are currently using green manganese sand and are feeding sodium aluminate, you will probably be able to eliminate the aluminate feed by switching to Greensand Plus. Also, Greensand Plus can withstand higher melting temperatures and high pressure differentials. High pressure differentials can allow runs for longer periods.

Greensand Plus is an exact replacement for Greensand Manganese Green Sand. The green sand filters (greensand plus) are calculated according to the needs of each water by our team.

    When you mention practical limit of iron concentration 15 ppm, is it at the entrance of the system? What is the recommended iron input concentration and removal % and what is the comparison with Filox?

      Hello Diana, I do not remember seeing this information ("practical limit of iron concentration 15 ppm") in the technical sheet. In our experience it seems very high, when we have had concentrations of 5 ppm of Fe it is already a headache. Especially since the beds end up being saturated with sediments of Fe precipitate in less than six hours.

      Regarding the capacity of the GreenSand Plus compared to the Filox, Filox promises a greater capacity of removal per ft3 of medium, but the problem is that the differential pressure due to saturation of sediment in the bed ends up making it impractical for high concentrations of faith.

    Hello! For a water flow of 12-14 LPS (liters per second), what amount of filter medium would you recommend knowing that we have 0.39 ppm?

      Hi Jessica, this filter media works at 5 gpm / ft2 (gallons per minute per square foot) and the amount of iron only modifies the chlorine dose. So for that flow you need 168 ft2 (square feet of greensand) the largest tanks we handle are 63 inches in diameter, approximately 8 tanks with aquamatic valves. With the Filox they can pass a flow rate of 5 gpm / ft3. To also take it into account.
