Coconut Shell Activated Carbon Manual Systen

The equipment with activated carbon Micro K Carbotecnia made of coconut shell, are ideal for the dechlorination and reduction of low molecular weight compounds, in the water purification process. Being of vegetable origin and thermally activated, Micro K has a low concentration of soluble matter, compared to mineral coals.

The manual coconut shell activated carbon filter

It is a simple equipment with a single tank loaded with Micro K Carbotecnia coconut shell charcoal, with manual control valve. Recommended for domestic or commercial use, and operation less than 23 hours

By its nature, Micro K has micropores throughout its surface, capable of adsorbing with greater efficiency low molecular weight organic pollutants that cause tastes and odors in the water, or that are harmful for consumption as pesticides, disinfection by-products, hydrocarbons. , etc. In addition, its high hardness compared to activated carbons of other raw materials, makes it more resistant to erosion, this avoids material losses during operation. This property makes it ideal for use as a pretreatment of softening, demineralising or reverse osmosis equipment; in these processes, the presence of suspended solids, such as carbon particles; it is undesirable. 

Another of the main applications of Micro K is the removal of free chlorine by chemical reaction, which is used as a disinfectant in water treatment. Free chlorine is found in water as hypochlorous acid (HOCl) or as hypochlorite ion (OCl), which when in contact with carbon, these are reduced to chloride ion (Cl). 

These equipments are designed and calculated with activated carbon with a size range of 12 x 40 US Std. Mesh, being smaller than the 8 x 30 US Std. Mesh size, the diffusion speed increases, therefore the speed of dechlorination and adsorption of organic pollutants becomes faster. This means that with a smaller volume of bed we can achieve the same performance of a larger volume bed of a carbon with a larger particle size.

Components of a filter:

Fiberglass tank: Manufactured from a single piece of polypropylene coated with fiberglass for mechanical resistance. It is maintenance free. Maximum operating pressure 150 psi.
Manual control valve: It is the component in which the inlet, outlet and drain connections are made; It allows us to change between the different service or backwash positions, manually. Maximum operating pressure 125 psi.
Granular filter medium: C12 x 40 Micro K coconut shell activated charcoal with a minimum BET surface area of 600 m2/ g.
Lower distributor and distribution tube: The distributor or diffuser is a micro-grooved element, which is placed in the lower part of the tank, this allows a correct distribution of the flow in the backwash position, and operates as a physical barrier that does not allow the leakage of the granular medium to the line output, in the service position. There are simple distributors, stack type or distributors with lateral tubes, spider type; their selection depends on the flow of service and backwash, as well as the diameter of the tank. Its construction material is HDPE or ABS. The central tube is a Ced PVC tube. 40 connecting the lower distributor with the head or control valve.
Support gravel: Support Silica Gravel of 1/8 x 1/16 US Std. Mesh. By having a micro-grooved distributor, the need to place several gravel beds of different granulometry is eliminated.
